Prep some ice pops straight from the freezer, a bag of chips, a bowl of popcorn and your favourite drink cos you’re gonna need ’em! This month looks like it’ll be tricky to juggle work and play cos Netflix has lined up a pretty awesome list of original new content under Netflix Original films such as The Kissing Booth 3 and Sweet Girl, as well as Netflix Original series like Control Z and more. This month’s new releases look like they’re about to become some of Netflix's most popular shows, so check them out while they’re still fresh:

1. Aftermath – 4th August

Based on actual events, this thriller that stars Ashley Greene, Sharif Atkins and Shawn Ashmore tells the story of a young couple who’s battling to stay together when they’re offered an amazing deal for a home with a troubled past that would generally be out of their reach. They accept the arrangement in a last-ditch attempt to start over as a couple. Tune in to their vivid encounter to find out what happens, as directed by Peter Winther.

2. Control Z Season 2 – 4th August

If you followed the first season of this series, you’ll not want to miss season two as the eight episodes will take you through the story arc of someone seeking vengeance for Luis (Luis Curiel), who begins by targeting the students and teachers at the high school and rushing Sofia Herrera (Ana Valeria Becerril) to solve the mystery of the murder.

3. Cooking With Paris – 4th August

Paris Hilton in the kitchen and preparing a meal? Now this is one cooking show we’d love to catch! The six-episode series which features visits from celebrity guests takes you from a ‘Breakfast in the clouds with Kim Kardashian West’ to ‘Italian night with Demi Lovato’ and ‘Family Steak Night with Kathy and Nicky Hilton’. Expect a treat for your eyes as Paris messes with ingredients such as caviar, gilded onion rings, meat-free burgers, vegan fries and get this – pink and sparkly unicorn-inspired cannolis!

4. Navarasa – 6th August

The nine human rasas (emotions) in Indian aesthetics’ theory are portrayed in Volume 1 of this Tamil anthology series, whereby a distinct emotion is represented in each episode, from anger to compassion, courage, disgust, fear, laughter, love, peace and wonder. The nine stand-alone films from nine different directors in this series will be released simultaneously this Friday.

5. The Swarm – 6th August

This Netflix Original film features Suliane Brahim, Sofian Khammes and Marie Narbonnea in creature feature about a French single mother, Virginie, who lives on a farm with her children, Laura and Gaston. She produces locusts for high protein food but has difficulties getting them to reproduce until she discovers that (gasp!) they have a craving for blood.

6. Vivo – 6th August

Follow the heartfelt journey of Vivo, a one-of-a-kind music-loving kinkajou (or rainforest ‘honey bear’) as he embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to fulfil his destiny and deliver a love song to Marta, voiced by Gloria Estefan. Lin-Manuel Miranda lends his voice as Vivo, the singer-musician kinkajou and Juan de Marcos González is the voice behind Andrés, Vivo's owner, and together, they’ll show you how music can open you to new worlds and more.

7. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters – 9th August

Next Monday, our favourite Stranger Things star, Millie Bobby Brown will appear in this Sci-Fi action adventure. If you missed it in cinemas two years ago, now’s your chance to catch this film, where Godzilla must rise to fend off the turmoil created by a group of rogue scientists who set out to reset humanity's balance by awakening the world's monsters – yikes!

8. Phil Wang: Philly Philly Wang Wang – 10th August

This show was taped at the London Palladium and is part of the Netflix Comedy Specials. Here, we see how multi-award-winning stand-up comedian, Phil Wang tackles topics such as getting older, dating again and odd foods, that have been on his mind in this stand-up comedy routine that revolves around race, romance, politics and his mixed British-Malaysian history.

9. The Kissing Booth 3 – 11th August

In the third instalment of the iconic teen romance comedy, The Kissing Booth, it's the summer before Elle Evans heads to college and she has a major decision to make: to move across the country with her dreamy BF, Noah or fulfil her lifelong promise of going to college with her BFF, Lee. FWP, we know, but we can’t wait to see just what the cast – Joey King, Jacob Elordi, Joel Courtney, Taylor Zakhar Perez and more – will deliver this round!

10. Sweet Girl – 20th August

In this action-thriller, a grieving husband (Jason Momoa) pledges to seek revenge for his wife's death while defending his only remaining family, his daughter Rachel (Isabela Merced). Sweet Girl contains all of your favourite classic movie themes such as revenge, love and family ties, so catch it to see all of the epic drama unfold!

11. The Chair – 20th August

This upcoming Netflix Original comedy-drama series sees Sandra Oh in the leading role as Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim, the first woman and woman of colour to lead the prestigious Pembroke University's troubled English department. The Chair also stars Jay Duplass, Holland Taylor and Everly Carganilla, among others, so keep a lookout for these characters and their works as they navigate through the challenges of everyday life.

12. Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha – 28th August

When it comes to K-dramas, we can never get enough, and this new rom-com that touches on the topics of love and healing looks like it’s going to be on our list of favourites when it drops later this month! Starring Shin Min-a and Kim Seon-ho (aka “Good Boy” Han Ji-pyeong in Start-Up), the series explores the relationship between the duo, which starts when Min-a, who plays the role of a dentist, abandons her city life to start afresh in a quiet seaside village. Her move sparks a budding romance with someone she least expects – the village chief and resident handyman with a heart of gold (we can totally see that in Seon-ho!). Needless to say, we can’t wait to enjoy the simple life and everything surrounding it through this series!
