Jochen Zeitz, the CEO of Harley-Davidson once said, “Sustainability is no longer about doing less harm. It’s about doing more good.” And since then, this quote has been etched in my mind, especially when it comes to my daily life.

You see, a watch has never been high on my must-have list as I dread the hassle of having to change the battery every time it dies. Although it’s a menial task, in this day and age, having to visit a shop that carries the battery for a particular kind of watch may not be that ideal or easy after all. It wasn’t until I heard of the ICE Solar Power Watch from Ice-Watch and learned more about all the goodness packed in it that I decided I needed one – stat. Here are three reasons why I’d say that this watch is perfect for a minimalist like me. Fun fact: The pouch that the watch comes in is made from recycled plastic bottles!

Sunlight is all that’s needed to charge its battery

One of the most amazing things about the ICE Solar Power Watch is that its battery can recharge under any type of light – both natural and artificial – at any given time. Harnessing a breakthrough technology by Japanese watch manufacturer and solar technology pioneer, Miyota, the classic quartz movement of the watch uses ultra-thin, semi-circular cells that have been incorporated into an inner ring. This configuration enables the watch to be recharged via solar cells using any form of light, making it a breeze for me cos all I need to do is place it near my night lamp before going to bed and I’ll be able to use it the next morning!

It’s as light as a feather

When it comes to watches, one of the things that turns me off is when it’s too bulky or heavy on my wrist. As someone who hardly wears accessories for the same reason, my choice of watch is always one that’s light and can be easily slipped on and off any time of the day. The beauty about the ICE Solar Power Watch is that it doesn’t come with a separate metal back, which is usually needed to charge its battery. This watch only has one single piece of ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), which is extremely light and less dense than polyamide!

Its simple yet colourful designs

As much as I love minimalist designs, I can’t say no to colours when I’m given the choice! The ICE Solar Power Watch in Sunset California (white strapped, which can be changed according to your preference) that comes with a gradient purple to pink, orange and yellow face was the first watch that caught my eye from this range. The combination of rose gold details and colours gives the watch a chic look and makes it easy to be paired whether I’m dreaming of being at a music festival complete with friendship bracelets to complement the watch or chilling under the palm trees on a beach while enjoying a tall glass of piña colada. Ahhh… Moreover, the watch is water-resistant, which means that I don’t have to worry about wearing it in the pool or the sea!

The Ice-Watch ICE Solar Power Watch is priced at RM369 for all designs and is available at all Time Zone outlets and online.
