The late ’90s leading up to the early Y2K years definitely had their moments. So much so that they keep making their way back with revamped styles that are fit for the current times. One of the trends I’m getting a kick out of is the sunglasses – from tacky-framed shades to bedazzled rimless pieces, they pretty much defined my tween years and really made me think that I was “all that and a bag of chips”! So if you’re in to relive those days and add some ’90s aesthetics into your life, here’s where you can shop the latest blast-from-the-past looks:
1. Boxy rectangle-shaped frames
If you’re not one to follow the rules of eyewear, give these narrow shades a try! Now, I’m not talking about the micro sunglasses as seen on the likes of Bella Hadid and Rihanna. Instead, these have a little more personality to them with narrow and boxy lenses alongside thicker frames and temples. Giving off a much edgier hater-blocker look, they’ve recently become one of my favourite styles to wear as they create a bold yet understated statement and make great staples when they come in black!

2. Rimless and tinted sunglasses
These were all the rage during the Y2K period and seeing them pop back into the scene makes me ecstatic as they were my all-time faves while growing up! Although some would consider this style a little tacky and prefer them and the rest of the ’00s fashion to stay put in the past, you have to admit that they’ve got tons of personality and sass – especially those with touches of rhinestones on ’em. As seen on celebs like Eve, Hilary Duff and Paris Hilton, the style is updated with a mix of minimalist and daring designs that still evoke a nostalgic feel.

3. Transparent frames
Reminiscent of the ’90s when J.Lo and Aaliyah would wear shades attached to clear frames, this style is making a comeback but with a more refined look. Still keeping true to its eye-catching aesthetic, the silhouette takes on a more basic approach with clean lines – be it organic or geometrical – and it’s perfect for everyday wear. Coming in a multitude of shapes like oval, cat-eye and rectangular, these are definitely going to be one of the hottest styles this season. Take my word for it!
