Spring has sprung and summer is well on its way! Though living in a tropical climate doesn’t make the transition exciting, we’re definitely looking forward to new collections tailored to the weather we know and love – well, sometimes. Taking into consideration the sweltering conditions we live in, we’ve got our own set of summer-friendly requirements for our clothing – like being breathable and lightweight. Lucky for us, Uniqlo’s newly launched and upcoming collections fit the bill just right! From subtly-embroidered tops in the Uniqlo x JW Anderson Spring/Summer 2021 collection to the functional and durable fabrics from the Uniqlo x Theory Collection, here are the drops to look out for this season:

With the MCO in place to curb the spread of Covid-19, investing in pieces that boost serotonin is crucial in our books. That’s where the new JW Anderson collection comes in with subtle yet charming embroidery motifs found on pieces from the men’s and women’s lines. Building on the ‘Threads in Bloom’ theme, the range blends simplicity with playfulness, with touches of embroidered wildflower accents, blanket stitches and bohemian smocking on linen, seersucker and slub cotton.

Combining Theory’s tailored and contemporary aesthetics with Uniqlo’s functional materials, the collection offers a modern take on New York City’s energetic spirit. With a variety of styles like utility parkas, polo shirts, tees, trousers and dresses to pick from, you’ll notice that each piece is carefully thought out as the line is constructed in useful fabrics and technologies like UV Cut which blocks about 90% of UV light, DRY functionality to swiftly dry sweat and lightweight Ultra Light Stretch materials with a 360° stretch.

Inspired by Nordic midsummer traditions, the Finnish design house and Uniqlo have released a capsule collection called ‘Joyful Summer’ that celebrates the warmth of the Scandinavian sun. Working with Annika Rimala and, for the first time, Fujiwo Ishimoto (who has created 400 patterns for the brand from 1974 to 2006!), the range features seven playful and unique prints on a wide selection of denim pieces from relaxed dresses to wide-brimmed hats. Adding to that are cut-and-sewn and jersey graphic tees, short-sleeved shirts, drawstring shorts as well as pieces for girls and babies.
