After taking a back seat in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the MTV Movie & TV Awards is back – better than ever – with a two-night affair. Held at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, the ceremony celebrated the biggest and brightest moments in movies and television, with a second night specially dedicated to the raw and unscripted world of reality television (now that’s a first!). From major wins to amusing moments and more, here’s a recap of what went down during the eventful nights of the star-studded celebration!

LeslieVision Opened The Show With A Bang

The long-awaited MTV Movie & TV Awards kicked off in a cheerful mood thanks to host Leslie Jones’s parody of the hit series, WandaVision. Dubbed LeslieVision, the comedian and actress brought her comedic talent to the show and it was beyond entertaining, providing a much-needed moment of laughter that we all clearly need. But that wasn’t all! Throughout the show, Leslie delivered several LOL-packed parodies inspired by Bridgerton, Godzilla vs. Kong and more, which didn’t fail to reel in the crowd!

Winnie Harlow's Peach-Perfect Red-Carpet Look

The red carpet at the awards wasn’t short of some of the most stunning looks we’ve spotted for a while and we were especially in awe of Winnie Harlow in a custom Miu Miu fit. Putting her best Armani Beauty face forward along with her long hair done up in a sleek top knot, the Canadian fashion model rocked a chic midriff-baring two-piece ensemble. Complemented by Gismondi jewels, the striking peach-coloured number which was encrusted with crystals simply sparkled in the light and Winnie was, hands down, one of the best-dressed stars at the event!

An Unexpected Nickelodeon Crossover Moment

You know what they say – the best moments are the ones you didn't see coming! In celebration of Scarlett Johansson’s career in the film industry which spans over 25 years, the American actress was awarded the MTV Generation Award. However, midway through her acceptance speech, Scarlett was hilariously interrupted as green slime was poured down on her by none other than her husband, Colin Jost. We all know that sliming is a thing at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards and to see the iconic green goo making an appearance at the MTV show certainly took the audience by surprise! Regardless, congratulations are in order for Scarlett who has starred in numerous notable films over the years.

Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page Was Crowned Breakthrough Star

Regé-Jean made headlines as he walked away with the Best Breakthrough Performance award for his role in the Netflix period drama, Bridgerton. Although we were rooting for Antonia Gentry from Ginny & Georgia, Regé-Jean’s win didn’t really come as a surprise – judging by how disappointed his fans were upon finding out that he wouldn’t be reprising his role in Season 2 of the series. The British-Zimbabwean actor truly captured the hearts of the viewers with his role as the dreamy Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings as well as his undeniable chemistry with co-star Phoebe Dynevor, who played leading lady, Daphne Bridgerton.

Lana Condor’s Killer-Eye Look

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how super and totally on fleek Lana's black eyeliner is?! Coupled with a sleek half ponytail, the American actress looked fierce yet elegant as she was dressed in a head-to-toe sequinned Giorgio Armani number – a departure from her famous sweetheart character, Lara Jean Song Covey. Speaking of which, the third instalment of the swoon-worthy romantic trilogy, To All The Boys: Always and Forever was named Best Movie during the awards ceremony, much to the delight of TATB fans (us included)!

Jersey Shore Received An Inaugural Honour

A first-of-its-kind honour, the cast of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation received the MTV Reality Royalty Lifetime Achievement award in recognition of the decade-long reality show’s significant impact on the reality TV scene. Vinny Guadagnino, Angelina Pivarnick, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Jenni "JWOWW" Farley were in attendance (while the remaining crew joined remotely) and they certainly nailed the assignment with an unscripted acceptance speech! Apart from the Reality Royalty title, the housemates of Jersey Shore also nabbed the Best Docu-Reality Show award. Talk about a milestone worth commemorating!

Chadwick Boseman Received A Standing Ovation

No awards ceremony is complete without a heartfelt moment and this time, Chadwick Boseman landed a well-deserved recognition by winning the Best Performance in a Movie award for his scene-stealing performance in Ma Rainey’sBlack Bottom, which was also his final film. Yara Shahidi, who accepted the award on behalf of him, paid homage to the late actor’s memorable presence in the film industry.

Marvel series, WandaVision Wins Big

Marvel enthusiasts, rejoice! Out of six nominations, the Marvel superhero series took home not just one, not two, not three, but a total of four Golden Popcorns. Elizabeth Olsen secured WandaVision’s first win of the night for Best Performance in a Show for her portrayal of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. The momentum built up with Kathryn Hahn receiving the award for Best Villain for her outstanding performance as Agatha Harkness. The on-screen nemesis then went on to bag the Best Fight award before closing the ceremony with the series’ biggest award of the night for Best Show, beating out lots of other equally-strong competition!
