Three years ago, I made a mental note to start taking better care of my skin by pencilling in facial treatments regularly. At that time, I had a hectic schedule that saw me travelling extensively for work, so my skin was used to the constant weather changes, which meant that I’d always need a different type of facial whenever I found the time to swing by AsterSpring. However, when I look back at my facial journey in the past two years, I can’t say that I’m proud of it, having gone only once or twice a year – but when you throw the ongoing pandemic into the picture and the never-ending MCOs which forced all the treatment centres to close for a continuous period of time, I was left with no choice but to do the best I could for my skin at home, which included following a proper skincare regimen and masking consistently.
Fortunately, as skincare centres have reopened, I got to check out the newly-revamped AsterSpring at Mid Valley Megamall recently and try the new Power Brightening Facial that is designed to fade sun spots, brighten skin and boost skin’s luminosity. It’s recommended for all skin types especially if your complexion is fatigued, dull and lacklustre, but not quite for those with severe acne and hypersensitivity.
If you’re wondering what causes skin dullness, the answer lies in many factors, including the build-up of dead skin cells, tiny particles from polluted air (aka environmental pollution) which create free radicals on skin that damage our collagen and stimulate pigment production, dehydration, hormonal fluctuations, stress, sun damage and vitamin deficiency. All these and more cause skin to lose its luminosity and create sun spots, hyperpigmentation, redness, acne marks and even fine lines and wrinkles – yikes!
To tackle all those problems in my skin that I didn’t realise were there all along, I left them in the capable hands of Elane Hin, my skincare therapist for the day, who addressed them by explaining more about the Power Brightening Facial before I commenced my session. The facial treatment promises to provide powerful results while protecting my skin’s health without the use of technologies like lasers which are harsh on skin and tend to cause sensitivity. It also harnesses high-performance active ingredients and Intense Brightening Essence boosts while dealing with brightening uneven skin tone, freckles and sun spots with panax ginseng, daisy and bearberry.
The facial started off with the essential steps of double cleansing, exfoliation and extraction, the last of which my skin was very much in need of. Then, the BT Micro Device from the USA was used for better penetration, followed by a relaxing massage with a concentrated blend of calming essential oils. As Elane worked her magic and I slowly dozed off, she continued by putting the Vitalzyme Bio Cellulose Mask on my face. The powerful anti-oxidant mask is enriched with green caviar, noni, sea grape and enzymes from 88 types of fruits and vegetables which, together, help to eliminate free radicals and restore the radiance in my complexion.
To complete the ritual, the Soothing & Rebalancing Ampoule Mist and Serum were used, and the combo is designed to rebalance the skin’s microbiome ecosystem with prebiotics and probiotics, improve skin’s barrier function and promote stronger defence against harmful aggressors, as well as calm any skin irritation. As the session came to an end and I was heading off in mid-afternoon, Elane also applied moisturiser and sunblock to my skin as the final touch. All in all, it was a much-needed facial that my skin was grateful for, especially after a hiatus. Not only did it deliver the results that were promised, I also noticed that makeup application was a lot smoother in the next few days and I didn’t have to use any blusher or highlighter to fake the radiance or healthy skin I longed for. If the Power Brightening Facial isn’t the answer to that glow and boost of confidence you’re after for Valentine’s Day (or anytime your skin needs a pick-me-up), then I don’t know what is!
