When I think of Jo Malone, one of the first combinations that comes to mind is the English Pear & Freesia Cologne, a scent that is as delicate as it is delightful, which is undoubtedly the reason why it’s been such a popular choice for both men and women since it first hit the shelves in 2010. For over a decade that it’s been around, the cologne has gone through a number of limited-edition releases that saw it dressed up in a range of hues – from red to blue, monochrome stripes and even glittering gold.

This Lunar New Year, the signature fresh and fruity scent is given a new look for a limited time – an elegant white and gold-hued design that is inspired by the ingredients, as you might have already guessed. Even at a glance, I could tell that the flacon will sit beautifully on your vanity table and stand out amongst your collection of Jo Malone fragrances, if you’re a fan of the British perfumery. However, if you’re unfamiliar with the English Pear & Freesia scent, imagine the luscious opening notes of just-ripe pears that are ready to be plucked from the tree, wrapped in a bouquet of cool, white freesias that bring out a golden, mellow scent that lingers.

Depending on how you wear it, at times you can catch a whiff of the other ingredients that make up the heart and base notes of the cologne such as rose, patchouli, musk and amber. On days when I feel like wearing a light and breezy scent, I’d spray the English Pear & Freesia Cologne onto my pulse points and hair, and on other days when I’d like a more unique combination, I’d layer it with my favourite Jo Malone Basil & Neroli Cologne, which brings the crispness up by a notch or two instantly.

Whenever I’m after a calm yet elegant duo, I’d pair English Pear & Freesia with Peony & Blush Suede. The juiciness of the red apple and peony notes from the latter imbues the fresh, fruity and mellow notes of the former with opulence and sensuality. For a toned down and delicate combination, I'd recommend pairing English Pear & Freesia with Wild Bluebell. The subtle sweetness and freshness of dewy bluebells calm the fresh golden notes of the King William Pear in the first scent, making them my go-to scent to wear on days when I feel like staying snug in my PJs and working from home.

Although the English Pear & Freesia Cologne is often called the essence of Autumn, I beg to differ. I prefer to call it a fresh Spring fragrance: the kind that is made for all seasons and a scent that you can pull off all. year. round.
