After months of anticipation, the Simone Rocha X H&M collection is finally out today and to celebrate the launch, both of the brands have curated a special digital experience that brings fashion, art and familiar faces together while still keeping safe and adhering to social-distancing guidelines.
As a nod towards Simone’s publishing history and her signature skill to reference art in her work, the designer and the fast-fashion brand have created an innovative pop-up book with an AR experience – the first of its kind in fashion!
With the help of British painter Faye Wei Wei, the book features intricate artworks that serve as backdrops and with a scannable QR code, iconic figures like Barry Keoghan, Helena Bonham Carter, Kaia Gerber, Paloma Elsesser and Rowan Blanchard come to life in miniature form decked out in beautiful clothing and accessories from the collection. While the book isn’t available for purchase, it truly is an innovative feat and you can still revel in Simone’s magical world as the collection, which includes selections for women, men and children, is now available in H&M Lot 10 from today onwards and online.
I, for one, am genuinely excited to get my hands on some of the items (and the book, if I could!) as I’ve always been a fan of the designer as well as her feminine and whimsical styles. As this collaboration is a combination of every part of her world – from her ancestral heritage to the career that shaped Simone to this day – it’s an all-rounded line that features her signature aesthetic such as spherical silhouettes, playful fabrication, broderie anglaise details, sparkling embellishments, full skirts and more. Not only that, when it comes to clothing, I’m always drawn to styles that are well thought out and have the ability to empower and inspire, whether it’s a blouse for work or a dress for a special occasion, and Simone’s pieces are exactly that – and more.
With tulle dresses, puff sleeves, apron tops, glistening hair accessories, beaded earrings and ruched, lace and pearl detailing across the range, choosing a favourite was really tough as they’re all stunning on their own! But if I had to choose a few, these would be my top picks:
