Today we celebrate one of our favourite virtual communication mediums available: emojis! Invented by Japanese artist Shigetaka Kurita in the late ’90s, the universal language has since revolutionised the way we communicate and become part of our everyday lives today.
As 17th July marks World Emoji Day, the unofficial celebration only began in 2014 with this tweet. Since then, the day has been recognised worldwide to promote its use (no problem there!) and because it’s super fun to send one that sums up our mood during a specific moment! But why today, you ask? The answer is as simple as the date on your calendar (if you’re using Apple devices) always shows 17th July!
