Led by Pierpaolo Piccioli, Valentino showcased its Spring/Summer 2021 Haute Couture collection at the grand Galleria Colonna, Sala Grande in Rome. Titled ‘Code Temporal’, the collection centred around the rituals of haute couture where its timeless and handmade creations meet the ever-changing and fast-paced digital world.

Using fabrics and textures to do all the talking, each look is crafted purposefully whether with layers or interlaced materials. Even simple silhouettes were elevated with an intricate construction or details that make them anything but basic. Elements like metallic fabrics, lustrous sequins, soaring platform heels and gold face paint brought out the digital charm and helped to juxtapose the collection even more against the elegant Renaissance backdrop. With so many pieces that made our hearts skip a beat, we’ve narrowed it down to the six unforgettable looks that we love:

Look 12

One look that we couldn’t stop thinking about was this all-pink set that consists of a flowy sequinned top, crêpeline Bermuda shorts and metallic boots. Not only do the materials contrast each other effortlessly, but the hues, oh the hues too!

Look 19

We clearly love a monochromatic look and this light shade of citrus yellow brought immediate joy to our hearts at the sight of it. Not only that, this was also the first time that Valentino included a male cast!

Look 24

Prompting images of the Midas touch, look 24 was a striking example of a digital-meets-couture world with its cashmere and leather coat paired with tulle trousers that are fully embroidered in gold sequins and the addition of gold shoes and face paint.

Look 51

Combining different textures and materials, this cape made us want to hit ‘pause’ to examine the intricate construction of bows and braids. Layered against the crepe top, it creates an impressive contrast without going OTT.

Look 63

While it’s subtler than most of the looks, the coat made us do a double take thanks to its complex cut that wraps around the model’s torso.

Look 70

Aside from the gold face paint, the monochromatic set in sand paired with the metal sequin-embroidered top and leather gloves instantly transported us to a digital reality when we saw this look!
